The highly anticipated reboot of the beloved Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, the creative force behind the blockbuster Barbie movie, has added acclaimed actress Carey Mulligan to its impressive cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins a stellar lineup that includes former James Bond star Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director, is set to bring a fresh perspective to C.S. Lewis' iconic fantasy saga, The Chronicles of Narnia. The upcoming film will adapt the series' prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which unfolds before the events of the well-known The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, known for her numerous awards and nominations including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig is slated to take on the role of the film's titular magician and Digory's uncle. Emma Mackey will bring to life a younger version of Narnia's infamous villain, the White Witch, while Meryl Streep lends her voice to the majestic Aslan, the series' god-like talking lion.
This isn't the first time Narnia has graced the silver screen. A previous trilogy, released between 2005 and 2010, adapted the first three Narnia books: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These films featured standout performances from Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.
Gerwig's latest venture into Narnia follows her success with the 2023 Barbie movie, which not only became a box office sensation but also secured eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song. The eagerly awaited The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is scheduled for release in 2026.
