IO Interactive first announced this James Bond project in 2020 as Project 007. The studio emphasized creating an original origin story, distinct from any film adaptations.
Recently, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak expressed ambitions for 007 First Light to launch a trilogy of games, though the studio's Hitman series is currently paused. In April, it was confirmed the game will also release on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
