Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to access the Deep Woods and find Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.
How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and use the Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines hiding the entrance. Begin by gathering four specific items for the Priestess' Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three can be found between floors 50 and 59, while the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To obtain the Sealing Scroll, you need to provide Balor with the following items, placed in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After meeting these requirements, speak with Balor again, and he will inform you that the scroll will be available the next day. Once you have the scroll, you can complete the offering at the altar.
Upon breaking the seal, the Priestess will urge you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. With your health depleted, you'll call for help, and Caldarus will appear in his human form, retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover. He'll then task you with finding him there, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell.
The Dragon’s Breath spell is crucial for burning through the vines at the Deep Woods entrance. Equip it from the pause menu, stand in front of the entrance, and activate the spell to unlock the Deep Woods and other previously inaccessible areas permanently.

How to Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, locate Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods, which is north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access the area. Caldarus' exact location will be marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, turn right at the entrance, and use your axe to clear a stump blocking your path. Continue north to the temple where Caldarus awaits.
Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area for just 10 Essence, making visits to Caldarus much more convenient. You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue in spirit form.
