For those who need a refresher, here's Netflix's official summary of the original "Happy Gilmore":
By the end of the first film, Sandler's character, Happy Gilmore, found peace after a grueling golf season—complete with a memorable brawl against "The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker. Motivated to save his grandmother's home from IRS seizure due to unpaid taxes, the failed hockey player turned his unorthodox skills into a spectacle on the professional golf circuit.
Throughout his journey, Happy forged alliances—like the one-handed coach Chubbs Petersen, played by the late Carl Weathers, and a homeless caddy portrayed by Allen Covert—while clashing with rivals, including Christopher McDonald's arrogant Shooter McGavin and Bob Barker. Against the odds, he proved the golf elites wrong, saved his grandmother's house, and returned home a hero.
While it remains unclear how the sequel will revive Gilmore's golf career, one thing is certain: in the real world, Happy Gilmore remains a beloved legend—even among top professional golfers.
News of "Happy Gilmore 2" first emerged in March 2024, with Netflix confirming the official greenlight in May. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck, with a screenplay by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
