As if they could resist bringing back Alicia Silverstone in that iconic yellow and plaid ensemble. The beloved actress is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a new Clueless sequel series, which is currently in development at Peacock.
According to Variety, the plot details are under wraps, but we do know that Silverstone will be returning, and the series will continue the story from the original 1995 film. This project differs from the Clueless spin-off that Peacock had planned back in 2020.
The creative team behind this new series includes Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for their work on the original Gossip Girl series and its reboot, who will write the show alongside Jordan Weiss. The trio will also executive produce the series, joined by Amy Heckerling, the original writer-director of Clueless, and Robert Lawrence, the film's original producer. CBS Studios and Universal Television are also on board to produce.
This isn't the first time Clueless has been adapted for the small screen. After the film's success, a television version aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard taking on the role of Cher instead of Silverstone.
Silverstone's recent appearance as Cher in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten shows her enthusiasm for returning to the character. It's clear she's eager to step back into Cher's world, and fans are undoubtedly excited to see her do so.
