AMC Cuts Wednesday Cinema Ticket Prices by 50% From July to Get More People Going to the Movies Mid-Week

Wednesday is about to become the cinephile’s new favorite day of the week — AMC Theaters have announced they’ll cut Wednesday ticket prices in half to boost mid-week attendance. Yes, you read that right: by half.

According to a company statement via Bloomberg, the all-day discount will be based on standard adult evening ticket rates and takes effect starting July 9. The most appealing part? Premium showings like IMAX and 4DX will also receive the 50% reduction — a significant perk, especially considering how expensive IMAX tickets can be for individuals, families, or groups.

PlayMoviegoing has struggled since the COVID-19 pandemic drove audiences away from theaters for an extended period, causing a major financial hit due to plummeting ticket sales. While attendance has gradually improved since then, the industry hasn’t fully recovered — and challenges remain. Still, AMC CEO Adam Aron sees opportunity.

The executive noted that the first quarter saw weak box office performance, but he labeled this an “anomaly” that has already “corrected itself,” thanks to the strong openings of both A Minecraft Movie and Sinners.

He stated that ticket sales have been strong since April 1. Given how well these two films have performed at the domestic box office so far, that’s easy to believe: A Minecraft Movie has grossed $408 million to date, while Sinners has earned $215 million and counting.

Plus, the summer blockbuster season is just getting underway, with Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Disney’s live-action Lilo and Stitch on the horizon. And let’s not forget the new Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, both launching in July. That means a surge in box office potential — and AMC’s new initiative is poised to amplify those numbers.
