Author : Aiden Jan 24,2025

A curated selection of the best Android RPGs to banish those long, dark winter nights. Forget the rain – these games offer immersive adventures and deep gameplay. We've excluded gacha games (check our separate gacha list for those) and focused on premium titles with complete, readily accessible content.

Top-Tier Android RPGs

Let's dive into the role-playing goodness!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2

A controversial top pick? Perhaps. But KOTOR 2's brilliant touchscreen adaptation of a classic is undeniably massive, brimming with compelling characters, and truly captures the essence of Star Wars.

Neverwinter Nights

Prefer fantasy to sci-fi? Neverwinter Nights' dark fantasy setting within the Forgotten Realms delivers. Beamdog's enhanced edition of this Bioware classic is superb.

Dragon Quest VIII

Often hailed as the best Dragon Quest, and our favorite mobile JRPG. Square Enix's meticulous port ensures smooth portrait-mode gameplay, perfect for commuting.

Chrono Trigger

A legendary JRPG, Chrono Trigger's mobile version deserves a spot. While not the ideal way to experience it, it's a viable option if other platforms aren't accessible.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

This strategy RPG remains remarkably engaging. A strong contender for the ultimate strategy RPG, and a standout mobile title.

The Banner Saga

A dark, challenging, and deeply strategic experience (note: the third entry requires a different platform). Imagine Game of Thrones meets Fire Emblem.

Pascal’s Wager

A standout action RPG, not just on mobile, but overall. Pascal's Wager's dark atmosphere, rich content, and innovative ideas make it a must-play.

Grimvalor

A superb side-scrolling Metroidvania RPG with stunning visuals and a Souls-like progression system.

Oceanhorn

The best non-Zelda game we've encountered, and a visually stunning mobile title (sequel is Apple Arcade exclusive).

The Quest

An often-overlooked first-person dungeon crawler inspired by classics like Might & Magic. Hand-drawn visuals and ongoing expansions add to its appeal.

Final Fantasy (Series)

No RPG discussion is complete without Final Fantasy. Several excellent titles from the series (VII, IX, and VI, among others) are available on Android.

9th Dawn III RPG

Despite the name, 9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil is a refined RPG experience. This top-down title is packed with content, including monster recruitment and a unique card game.

Titan Quest

A Diablo-esque hack-and-slash from a bygone era, now available on mobile. Not a perfect port, but a decent option if you lack other alternatives.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

While less famous than Final Fantasy, the Norse mythology-themed Valkyrie Profile series is excellent. Lenneth's convenient save-anywhere feature is ideal for mobile play.
