The mass resignation, encompassing the entire staff of over 20 employees, stems from failed negotiations between employees and Annapurna Pictures. The staff, under the leadership of then-president Nathan Gary, aimed to establish Annapurna Interactive as an independent entity. However, these efforts proved unsuccessful, leading to the collective resignation.

According to Bloomberg, Gary confirmed the collective resignation of all 25 team members, stating it was a difficult decision not taken lightly. Annapurna Pictures, through Megan Ellison, assured partners of their commitment to ongoing projects and continued expansion within interactive entertainment, emphasizing a more integrated approach across various media.
