While Avowed has been compared to Skyrim, its gameplay is more akin to Obsidian's The Outer Worlds, a single-player experience. This begs the question: does Avowed offer multiplayer capabilities? The short answer is no.
Avowed lacks both co-op and player-versus-player (PvP) modes. Your journey through this fantasy realm will involve companions, but these will be non-player characters (NPCs), mirroring the structure of The Outer Worlds. Similarly, all enemies are AI-controlled; there are no player invasions or other multiplayer features. This stands in contrast to earlier plans.
Initially, Obsidian Entertainment intended to incorporate co-op functionality, even using it as a marketing tool to attract investors. However, this feature was ultimately cut during development, with the studio citing a focus on other aspects of the game. While the absence of co-op might disappoint some, the resulting single-player experience remains compelling.
Currently, no Avowed co-op mods are publicly known. While a future mod is possible, it's a significant undertaking. Furthermore, Obsidian has confirmed no plans for post-release co-op implementation.
