Borderlands 4 Gets Its Own PlayStation State of Play
PlayStation has officially announced a dedicated State of Play for Borderlands 4 happening today. In a tweet on April 29, PlayStation confirmed the Borderlands 4 State of Play will stream on April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST via their official YouTube and Twitch channels. During the livestream, developers from Gearbox Software will share new details about the upcoming FPS sequel to the beloved Borderlands series. According to a PlayStation.Blog post on April 29, the State of Play will feature over 20 minutes of developer-guided gameplay, showcasing missions, killer weapons, thrilling Action Skills, both new and returning characters, and more.
Launch Date Brought Forward to September 12
Shortly after the State of Play was announced, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford revealed in a since-deleted Twitter (X) video on April 29 that Borderlands 4’s release date has been moved up to September 12. He quickly removed the video and posted again to clarify he had shared the news prematurely and would repost it shortly.
In the video, Pitchford explained that development is going exceptionally well, describing the situation as "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," allowing the team to push the launch date forward. During PlayStation’s State of Play in February, Borderlands 4’s launch trailer revealed a planned release on September 23. The game’s official Twitter (X) account has since confirmed that the game will indeed arrive two weeks earlier.
The official post reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
Gearbox Software is committed to making this the most incredible Borderlands experience yet. With the release date now earlier than originally announced, fans can look forward to diving into the chaos and destruction on the brand-new planet of Kairos sooner than expected.
