Capcom has cleverly teased Resident Evil 9 in a video celebrating the monumental achievement of reaching 10 million players for Resident Evil 4. Released on social media on April 25, the video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by an infected crowd sporting party hats, making their way towards a church.
The video then shifts to a rock anthem, with Dr. Salvador amusingly strumming his chainsaw like a guitar. As the camera pulls back, it reveals Leon fist-pumping in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign. However, when viewed sideways, the boards of the sign form the Roman numeral "IX," hinting at the number 9.
While it might seem like a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that a lower plank, crucial to forming the numeral, was absent in earlier scenes, suggesting its inclusion was intentional. This observation has stirred excitement among fans, with one commenter exclaiming, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.
The video in its entirety can be viewed below:

Capcom has also confirmed that the next installment in the Resident Evil series, directed by Resident Evil 7's Koshi Nakanishi, is in the works. Nakanishi, reflecting on the challenges following Resident Evil 7, stated, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Speculation suggests the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore, though this has not been officially confirmed.
