Civilization 7, the latest installment in the iconic strategy series, is set to delay its first in-game event to focus on essential quality-of-life enhancements. This decision comes after Firaxis Games provided a detailed update on February 28, 2025, outlining their development roadmap and future plans for the game.

The eagerly anticipated first in-game event for Civilization 7, known as the Natural Wonder Battle, was initially slated for the upcoming Update 1.1.0 on March 4, 2025. However, Firaxis Games has decided to push back this event to prioritize crucial quality-of-life improvements. They stated, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access release, Civilization 7 has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism aimed at its user interface. Firaxis Games has acknowledged this feedback, saying, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized their commitment to ongoing improvements, stating, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

The upcoming Update 1.1.0, set to launch on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles (with a different release timing for Nintendo Switch), will focus on addressing community suggestions and feedback. While the full list of update notes will be available at release, Firaxis Games has provided a sneak peek of what players can expect.

A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be available for players to explore at no additional cost. Additionally, the much-anticipated UI adjustments will be implemented, directly addressing players' concerns and feedback. The update will also bring significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, with AI leaders becoming more adept at achieving a Cultural Victory.

Alongside these improvements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis Games confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025

The development team continues its commitment to enhancing Civilization 7 with a major update scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date may be subject to change. This update will further refine the game's UI, which remains a top priority for Firaxis Games. According to their post, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking beyond the March updates, Civilization 7 is set to receive a series of enhancements and refinements. These include the addition of a "one more turn" feature, allowing players to continue past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements in multiplayer support.

Firaxis Games noted, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
