Sid Meier's Civilization VII ushers in a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, launching across major gaming platforms. This guide clarifies the game's cross-play and cross-progression features.
Cross-Play in Civilization VII:
Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. Players require an active 2K account linked to their chosen platforms. Cross-play functions seamlessly across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering standard map sizes and player counts.
However, incorporating Nintendo Switch players introduces restrictions. Due to the Switch's hardware limitations, it cannot support standard or larger map sizes. Multiplayer game sizes are also capped: four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and six players in the Modern Age. Therefore, cross-play sessions involving a Switch will adhere to these reduced parameters. While the Switch version is playable, these limitations should be considered, especially in online multiplayer.
Cross-Progression in Civilization VII:
Unlike the complexities of cross-play, Civilization VII's cross-progression is straightforward. With an active 2K account, progress is synchronized across all linked platforms. This means players can seamlessly continue their game on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or other platforms without restarting. This feature, absent in Civilization VI at launch, demonstrates a responsiveness to modern gaming habits.
Civilization VII launches February 11th. Enjoy building your empire across multiple platforms!
