Disney has announced that Disneyland's upcoming Coco-inspired attraction will occupy primarily backstage areas near Disney California Adventure's Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, while the new Avatar-themed land will take over part of the current Hollywood Backlot. This transformation means Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026.
The Disney Parks Blog revealed these details alongside fresh concept art, confirming that construction on the Coco attraction begins backstage this fall. Announced at D23 2024, this will mark the first attraction ever based on the beloved Pixar film.

The Coco experience will draw inspiration from classic attractions like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Disney's team promises to "bring our skeletal characters to life through cutting-edge Audio-Animatronic technology in ways that will truly amaze guests."
Details remain scarce about the Avatar expansion currently in early development, though it will be inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and future franchise installments. This California version of Pandora will offer a fresh interpretation distinct from Disney World's existing Pandora - The World of Avatar.

While fans will mourn Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, Disney World's Hollywood Studios will soon debut an entire Monsters, Inc. land featuring the franchise's first-ever suspended rollercoaster through the iconic door warehouse.
Alongside these park expansions, Disney confirmed plans for a new eastside parking structure and transit hub replacing part of the Manchester cast member lot. The facility will offer approximately 6,000 spaces alongside improved traffic flow, security screening, and pedestrian access via a Harbor Boulevard bridge.
