To initiate The Tournament quest in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you'll need to encounter Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. Gyoji will approach you outside your hideout after you’ve taken down several members of The Shinbakufu. He'll introduce you to a clandestine fighting arena located at the Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. To make your journey smoother, we recommend synchronizing with the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west of the area, which will serve as a fast travel point for future visits and character switches.

Once at the Ominesanji Temple, engage with Gyoji again. He'll brief you on the tournament's structure: four one-on-one duels followed by a showdown with the ultimate champion. After the briefing, you can start the first fight by ringing the bell.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a high-stakes gauntlet where you must engage in intense, life-or-death combat. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights by ringing the bell to start the next bout. Use this time to heal with rations and upgrade your weapons and armor to ensure you're ready for the next challenge.

To triumph over your opponents, we suggest wielding a Long Katana as Yasuke, utilizing dodge and parry maneuvers to expose vulnerabilities. Additionally, leverage abilities like Power Dash and Payback when you have sufficient adrenaline. Knowing your opponents' weapons can also give you an edge:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen dual-wields Poison Katana and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal if you keep your distance.

After defeating all challengers, meet Gyoji again atop the hill. He'll express gratitude for his freedom and mention future tournaments. It's at this point that the "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For The Tournament, the Long Katana is your weapon of choice. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana available, and don't forget to upgrade it to its maximum potential at your hideout's blacksmith. Enhance it with engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing for a significant advantage. Your armor selection is equally crucial, as it not only increases your health but can also provide combat-altering engravings.

Prior to entering The Tournament, ensure you've unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox from The Shinbakufu, and the Protector’s Armor by completing a Castle mission. The former boosts your damage by 75% while capping your health at 25%, and the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can allow you to defeat tournament foes in under a minute, provided you master the art of parrying.

When it comes to skills, focus on maxing out the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Prioritize unlocking Combat Expert to enhance your melee damage, and secure Power Dash and Payback for effective combat strategies.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting March 20th. Dive into The Tournament and claim your trophy!
