Confirmed: Robert Pattinson Will Not Be the DCU Batman

Author : Christian Feb 26,2025

James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), explicitly excluding Robert Pattinson.

During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson's Batman remains exclusive to Matt Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga." Gunn stated definitively, "It's certainly not the plan. No." Safran elaborated, emphasizing the necessity of introducing a distinct Batman into the DCU, making it a key objective of The Brave and the Bold.

Earlier speculation regarding Pattinson's potential DCU-wide role stemmed from Reeves' ambiguous comments earlier this year. However, Reeves himself has focused on his own "Epic Crime Saga," stating his intention to develop that storyline independently. Safran expressed enthusiasm for Reeves' vision for The Batman Part 2, highlighting its encouraging early drafts.

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with Gunn and Safran actively shaping the script. While Andy Muschietti was initially attached to direct, his involvement remains contingent on the final script. Further announcements regarding The Brave and the Bold are promised soon.

The Batman Part 2's delayed release date (October 1, 2027) raises questions about The Brave and the Bold's release window. Safran confirmed only that a Batman film is slated for October 2027.

A brief, silhouetted appearance of Batman in Creature Commandos Episode 6 subtly established his pre-existing presence and recognition within the DCU, eliminating the need for an origin story. Gunn confirmed this Batman's status within the DCU and hinted at a future team-up with Superman. He expressed his long-standing admiration for the character, emphasizing his excitement for future collaborations between Batman and Superman within the DCU.
