Fans of *Cyberpunk 2077* have long speculated about what could have been, and recent leaks have brought to light an ambitious DLC that was planned to take the game to new heights—literally. Blogger and dataminer SirMZK has unearthed files from the game’s code that reveal CD Projekt RED’s vision for a cosmic expansion set on the Moon. This shelved project promised to expand the game's universe far beyond the neon-drenched streets of Night City.
The game's files contain references to lunar surface maps, designated zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a model for a rover. The Moon location was envisioned to be expansive, potentially covering a quarter of Night City's size, and designed as an open world. This would have introduced a new dimension to the gameplay, allowing players to explore the vast, uncharted lunar landscape.
A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, eagle-eyed players can catch a glimpse of it in one of the endings, where V looks out of a spaceship window. Moreover, the files hint at a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest named "201," which was linked to the Arasaka storyline.
There's hope among the fanbase that some of these shelved concepts might find new life in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, *Orion*, which aims to further expand the *Cyberpunk* universe. However, the studio has yet to confirm whether these ideas will be revisited.
Although the Moon DLC remains a tantalizing "what if," the details uncovered offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been a groundbreaking addition to *Cyberpunk 2077*. It would have boldly ventured into uncharted territory, blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk aesthetic.
