Author : Daniel Apr 10,2025

The final two updates for Motion Twin and Evil Empire's acclaimed roguelike, Dead Cells, are now live, marking the end of a remarkable journey that began in 2018. Titled Clean Cut and The End is Near, these updates bring a grand finale to the game, which has been continuously enriched with new content over the years. Despite the heavy criticism faced when the developers announced the cessation of free updates, the latest additions are a testament to their commitment to the game and its community.

Clean Cut and The End is Near introduce a total of four new weapons, including the unique Sewing Scissors and the Misericorde, alongside exciting new modes such as Speedrun and Boss Rush DIY. These updates also feature 40 new heads, a variety of new enemy types, and an NPC that allows players to change their head's appearance at will. While Dead Cells transitions to focusing on long-term quality-of-life improvements as the developers move on to new projects, these final updates ensure that players have plenty of new content to explore.

It's worth noting that the decision to end free updates after nearly half a decade of continuous support was met with some backlash. However, the game's legacy of free content, paid expansions, and ongoing bug fixes and quality-of-life enhancements will undoubtedly keep Dead Cells relevant for years to come.
