Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

The game Dynasty Warriors: Origins famously warns against engaging Lu Bu, proclaiming him the ultimate warrior. However, defeating him offers significant rewards, including bragging rights, story progression (if siding with Shu or Wei in Chapter 4), the "The Strongest" trophy, and the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd (in post-game). This guide details how to overcome this formidable foe.

Preparation is Key:

Before the battle, optimize your equipment. A multi-hit sword to stagger Lu Bu is crucial. Battle Arts with low Bravery requirements, quick activation, and wide range are essential. Consider using Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Prioritize accessories boosting health and defense (like Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell) to survive his powerful attacks. A weapon granting Bravery per Perfect Evade is highly beneficial.

Phase 1: Mounted Mayhem

Initially, Lu Bu rides Red Hare. This phase involves dodging his fast charges. He'll occasionally pause; exploit these moments to unleash Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks generally have limited area of effect, except for Red Hare's powerful jump attack, which is easily evaded. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts, initiating the next phase.

Phase 2: Unmounted Onslaught

On foot, Lu Bu is incredibly aggressive. His attacks are swift, and he frequently moves rapidly across the battlefield, often with a red aura indicating invulnerability to stuns. Evade his charges (he attacks in sets of three). Watch out for his grab attack – easily dodged. His most dangerous move involves an orange glow, followed by three devastating ranged arrow volleys. Use Absconding Slash to counter this from a distance; close-range Battle Arts are fatal. Keep your Musou gauge full for emergency invincibility. This phase prioritizes juggling Lu Bu to quickly deplete his Fortitude. Maintain close proximity for better reaction time and consistent evasive maneuvers.

Phase 3: Musou Rage

Once Lu Bu's health is sufficiently low, he enters Musou Rage. He becomes unstaggerable and unleashes relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack. Utilize all remaining resources – Musou attacks (when close), Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes. Failing to break his Fortitude before his Musou attack will force a repetition of this phase. Success here secures victory.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
