TouchArcade Rating: Last year's Switch release of Square Enix's monster-collecting RPG, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was a delightful experience despite some technical hiccups. Its charm and engaging gameplay easily surpassed other Dragon Quest spin-offs on the Switch, rivaling the exceptional Dragon Quest Builders 2. While a PC port was anticipated, a mobile release seemed far off. Surprisingly, Square Enix announced today that the previously Switch-exclusive title will arrive on iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, bundled with all previously released DLC, including the Digital Deluxe Edition content. See the launch trailer below:
The official Japanese website showcases comparison images highlighting the game's appearance across mobile, Switch, and Steam platforms. Here's one example:
Importantly, the Steam and mobile versions will omit the online battle mode from the Switch release, which allowed for real-time player-versus-player combat.
Currently priced at $59.99 (standard) and $84.99 (Digital Deluxe Edition) on Nintendo Switch, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince will launch on September 11th at a price point of $29.99 on mobile and $39.99 on Steam. Given past delays in bringing Dragon Quest titles to mobile, this relatively swift port is a welcome surprise. I'm eager to revisit the game on iPhone, iPad, and Steam Deck. Pre-register now on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android)!
