In Duck Detective: Secret Salami, you'll step into a charming, story-rich mystery packed with eccentric characters, unexpected plot turns, and plenty of mischief. As the famed (self-appointed) duck detective, your job is to crack the case involving stolen lunch meat, shady colleagues, and hidden secrets. The game delivers laugh-out-loud moments that will have you in stitches, while also feeling sympathy for the duck’s often absurd predicaments. If you're finding the story mode challenging, we've put together a detailed beginner’s guide to help you see it through. Let’s get started!
Understand the Core Gameplay Mechanics of Duck Detective: Secret Salami
For those new to the game, Duck Detective: Secret Salami comes in two versions: a free version and a paid version. This guide covers only the story mode from the free release, as it’s available to everyone. Although the full experience is fairly brief, it’s left a lasting impression on players, quickly earning cult classic status just one year after launch—no small feat. You’ll play through seven chapters, officially called “Deducktions,” in this order:
The Nest Egg
The Entrance
The Suspects
The Client and More Suspects
The Presents
The Message and The Business
The Receptionist and More Business

Deducktion #1. The Nest Egg
The story kicks off in Eugene McQuacklin’s rather bleak apartment. The Nest Egg introduces the tone and main character. Inspect everything around the room—the scattered papers, the loaf of bread, the desk phone, and every visible item. Remember, sharp observation is your greatest tool.
Answer: Mr. McQuacklin spent his last few coins on that loaf of bread.
Deducktion #2. The Entrance
Keep an eye out for every sign and note you come across in The Entrance. Read each one carefully. Most importantly, talk to everyone you meet. That’s how you start gathering clues to solve the missing salami case.
Answer: Sophie is frightened and upset after receiving a threatening note.
Deducktion #3. The Suspects
This crocodile acts strange—ask him plenty of questions. There’s a green bag by his desk, suggesting he might be the culprit. Maybe check his computer, too—you never know what secrets he’s keeping. The Suspects stage revolves around interrogation.
Answer: Laura hired Detective Duck to investigate her stolen lunch.
Deducktion #4. The Client and More Suspects
The sheep holding the whisk seemed too pleasant to be a thief—but don’t be fooled by appearances. Focus on each character in the room individually, leaving no one out. With the sheep, take a close look at the hair above her right ear. That may give you the insight needed to reach the right conclusion in this deduction.
Answer: Sophie is the receptionist. Manfred is the Branch Manager. Laura works in customer service. Freddy is in operations.
Deducktion #5. The Presents
Sophie received a plush toy and a necklace as gifts, but we're more interested in the book. Study every part of the page and read the note closely—you might find vital clues there.
Answer: Laura gave Sophie the plush. Rufus gave her the book. Boris gave the necklace. Nothing was stolen.
Deducktion #6. The Message and the Business
This part may require stepping outside into the parking lot. Since it's raining, don’t forget your umbrella—you’ll be speaking with Boris outside for some time. Make sure to collect every possible detail during The Message and The Business.
Answer: The salamis are being smuggled illegally from Salsiccia.
Deducktion #7. The Receptionist and More Business
Here the plot thickens, and the truth starts to unravel. Check every box in the room—even the electrical wiring. Eventually, you’ll discover a safe full of clues. The code is 214. Maybe this final piece of the puzzle will help you catch the salami thief.
Answer: Sophie was kidnapped because she planned to talk. Manfred is the salami thief. Sophie and Boris are accomplices.
