"Dune: Awakening Delay Extended by Three Weeks for Beta-Driven Improvements"

Author : Joshua May 24,2025

Fans eagerly awaiting Dune: Awakening, the upcoming open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed films, will have to wait a bit longer. The game's release has been pushed back to June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom made this announcement while also revealing that players who opt for the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition can get a head start and dive into the game on June 5.

Funcom cited feedback from their ongoing Persistent Closed Beta as the reason for the delay, stating that the additional time will allow the team to "cook" a bit longer and implement crucial changes based on player suggestions. This extra time will also facilitate a "large-scale beta weekend next month," offering more players the chance to experience the game and provide feedback.

While the delay might be disappointing for those eager to explore Arrakis, Funcom is set to host a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This livestream will delve into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, offering fans a deeper look into what Dune: Awakening has in store.

We at IGN are excited about Dune: Awakening. As mentioned in our hands-on preview, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Duniverse, but after experiencing bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, my day spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is definitely one to watch."

For more information, check out the details on the MMO's business model, post-launch plans, and the in-depth gameplay trailer that was showcased at Gamescom ONL last year.
