Dynasty Warriors: Origins does not feature a dedicated sprint button; instead, your character naturally transitions into a sprint after running a few steps. While sprinting provides decent mobility, you'll frequently need to traverse vast battlefields swiftly to rescue allied officers and secure victory.

This is where your horse becomes essential. You can summon it anytime while exploring the overworld or during combat. You can even engage enemies from horseback, perfect for hit-and-run tactics. Here's how to acquire your first horse, improve its abilities, and switch between different mounts.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

You can obtain your first horse for free during Chapter 1 by speaking with a merchant who appears in the overworld. The merchant becomes available after completing the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," and can be encountered while traveling to the Battle Of Guangzong. He appears northeast of Wan Castle but before reaching the camp, standing beside his horse. Simply speak with him to receive the horse as a gift, and it will automatically become your active mount.

You can instantly summon and mount your horse by pressing down on the left joystick for consoles or the V key on keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse gains experience points from completed missions while equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it. Both story battles and standard missions contribute to horse progression, though skirmishes do not provide experience. Mission objectives are marked by red diamond icons featuring a soldier symbol, representing moderate-length engagements. The amount of experience earned depends on battle duration and how frequently you utilize your horse for riding and charging enemies. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique enhancements at certain level intervals, with each horse offering different bonuses.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While your first horse is automatically equipped, you'll eventually acquire additional mounts to choose from. You can manage your horses through the Battle Preparation menu, where the option appears as the final selection on the left-side list. Each horse possesses distinct advantages, with some naturally faster or more capable than others. It's worth evaluating new acquisitions for potential upgrades. To obtain new horses, maximize the peace level in any region. When achieved, a reward containing a new horse will appear at a nearby waypoint.
