Conquer the Legendary Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate, a pivotal moment in Dynasty Warriors: Origins and a challenging chapter in Chapter 2, requires a strategic approach. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo. This guide outlines the steps to victory.
Initial Assault:
Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Securing two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base capture; defeating Zhang Liao rewards you with the twin pike weapon. Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate.
Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:
The initial battle is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, weakening the defenses and paving your way towards Hulao Gate.
Lu Bu's Intervention:
Lu Bu's arrival marks a critical juncture. Avoid direct confrontation. Instead, eliminate enemy officers on the periphery to maintain morale, as Lu Bu's presence significantly depletes it. Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily contain Lu Bu, giving you time to focus on Dong Zhuo. This creates a time constraint – if Liu Bei's forces retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo to prevent mission failure.
Defeating Dong Zhuo:
After Lu Bu departs, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads ready, charge towards Dong Zhuo's commander's circle.
Dong Zhuo will unleash two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to clear a path through the soldiers guarding them. The second Grand Tactic requires defeating an officer; consider dueling Diaochan (who may ambush you) to simplify this encounter.
Once the Grand Tactics are thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei may even initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your final assault on Dong Zhuo. While a duel is tempting, a standard defeat is sufficient at this stage.
