EA Rejects Dead Space 4 Proposal

In an insightful online interview on Dan Allen Gaming's YouTube channel, Glen Schofield, the creator of the iconic Dead Space series, shared some disappointing news for fans eagerly awaiting a fourth installment. Joined by fellow developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, Schofield revealed that Electronic Arts (EA) has rejected their proposal for Dead Space 4, leaving the future of the acclaimed sci-fi horror franchise uncertain.

EA Currently Not Interested In Dead Space

Developers Still Hope For New Entry In The Future

The conversation began when Stone recounted a heartwarming moment with his son, who, after playing Dead Space, pleaded for news of a new game. Stone's response, "I wish," encapsulated the team's current situation. Despite their enthusiasm, EA's response was swift and dismissive. Schofield explained, "We didn’t go too deep. They just said ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate it blah blah blah’ and we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further." He added, "And we respected their opinion—they know their numbers and what they have to ship."

Stone highlighted the current state of the gaming industry, noting that it's "in a weird place right now" where publishers are cautious about investing in older franchises. This hesitation might explain EA's reluctance to greenlight Dead Space 4, despite the positive reception to last year's remake, which scored an impressive 89 on Metacritic and a Very Positive rating on Steam.

Despite the setback, the developers remain hopeful. Stone expressed a collective wish, saying, "Maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it," with Schofield and Robbins nodding in agreement. Although the three are no longer working together at the same studio and are engaged in their own projects, their passion for Dead Space 4 remains strong. They believe that with time, the beloved horror series might see a revival.
