EA Sports FC 25 has had a gameplay overhaul

EA Sports FC 25 has faced significant backlash, prompting a substantial "Gameplay Refresh Update." Criticisms extend beyond monetization to encompass technical issues and gameplay mechanics. The update addresses over 50 areas, focusing on core gameplay systems.

Key improvements include revised assists, shooting mechanics, goalkeeper performance, and defensive strategies. The update aims to rectify frequent occurrences of defenders inexplicably catching up to attackers. Offensive maneuvers are intended to be smoother, with improved ball movement. AI reverse tackles and interceptions have been toned down, and the effectiveness of crossing passes has been reduced. Players in familiar positions will offer quicker support. Offside detection for AI-controlled players has been enhanced, and the accuracy of long-range shots has seen a minor improvement.

Initial reception was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 player reviews being positive upon release. Common complaints included perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and PlayStation controller compatibility problems. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
