Nintendo enthusiasts on the West Coast have reason to celebrate as the iconic gaming company opens its second official U.S. store in San Francisco today, May 15. Located at 331 Powell Street in Union Square, the Nintendo San Francisco store follows in the footsteps of the renowned New York location. Previously known as the Nintendo World Store, the New York branch underwent renovations and rebranding to become Nintendo NY before its grand reopening in 2016.
IGN had the privilege of visiting the new San Francisco store to explore what Nintendo has in store for its fans. In addition to the store tour, IGN sat down with Nintendo of America's President, Doug Bowser, to discuss the strategic decision behind opening their first West Coast store at this time.
During the interview, the conversation naturally turned to the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5. Bowser provided insights into the Switch 2's availability in the U.S. at launch and beyond, as well as addressing the controversial Game-Key Cards and other topics of interest to Nintendo fans.
