The Exit 8 has arrived on Android, blending elements of a walking simulator with a chilling twist, developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, priced at $3.99. This game immerses you in an eerie atmosphere that challenges your every step.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, you find yourself navigating a seemingly endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. You're caught in a loop where the tiles, lights, posters, and even the lone man walking towards you repeat endlessly.
Your challenge is to spot anomalies. These can be subtle, like a poster with a different graphic, or more obvious, such as a river of blood instead of a floor. The core mechanic revolves around noticing these changes and reacting quickly.
If you notice something unusual, turn back. If not, continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake, which means correctly spotting and responding to anomalies eight times consecutively. Fail, and you must start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game's design draws inspiration from liminal spaces and the Backrooms, with settings modeled after real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. The claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture amplify the unsettling experience.
You're encouraged to engage actively with your environment, searching for the smallest details that could indicate danger or a shift in reality. This constant questioning of your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took Kotake Create about nine months to develop. Following its launch, it garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
