FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Author : Blake Apr 23,2025

With less than 24 hours until the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next generation of its popular console. Amidst the anticipation, a recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has sparked speculation about potential new features for the Switch 2's controller lineup.

On March 31, a filing emerged under the product code "BEE-008" from Nintendo, as reported by Famiboards and picked up by Nintendo-focused sites like GoNintendo. This filing appears to be for a new game controller, and some fans are speculating that it could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. While this is purely speculative as Nintendo has not yet confirmed any plans for a Switch 2 Pro Controller, certain features listed in the filing suggest it might be a Pro model, including Bluetooth and NFC capabilities.

One particularly noteworthy aspect of this filing is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which did not feature a headphone jack, this new controller could offer this convenient quality-of-life feature, aligning it with modern controllers like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. Past FCC filings have provided glimpses into Nintendo's plans, lending some credibility to the speculation surrounding this controller.

As we await official confirmation, the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is set to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, and fans are hopeful for detailed information that might include a release date. The Direct is scheduled to run for an hour, with additional Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay planned for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
