The classic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has just received a significant free update on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. Dubbed the Imperium Update, this enhancement introduces a host of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life features that elevate the gaming experience. If you're among the players who have enjoyed this title since its Android debut in 2018, you're in for a treat with these new additions. Fans of the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, can also look forward to receiving the same update next week.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update integrates some of the most successful features from Feral's newer mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Players can now enjoy three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These additions enhance your ability to command units with greater precision during battles. For instance, you can now move your army, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need to manually drag paths.
Positioning Mode allows for meticulous unit placement adjustments through a tap-and-hold mechanism. The Group Grid feature simplifies the management of unit groups with a user-friendly, collapsible selection menu. Meanwhile, Melee Mode enables ranged units to seamlessly transition into close combat when the situation demands it.
A standout feature of the update is the Command Slowdown, which automatically reduces the game speed when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to strategize effectively. Additionally, for the first time, ROME: Total War on Android (and iPad) now supports keyboard and mouse inputs, offering a more familiar control scheme for some players.
The minimap has also been revamped to resemble the one found in MEDIEVAL II, featuring smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button allows for quick returns to the default view, enhancing user experience.
The Imperium Update is now available for ROME: Total War on Android, and you can download it directly from the Google Play Store. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week.
