In response to player feedback, Final Fantasy 14 is set to introduce a significant update in Patch 7.16, allowing players to exchange Clouddark Demimateria 1 for Clouddark Demimateria 2. This exciting change, announced via social media, is scheduled to roll out on January 21 following a brief server maintenance period. The introduction of the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid on December 24, shortly after the release of Patch 7.15, brought a challenging new battle that pits up to 24 players against a formidable foe, incorporating mechanics from the Shadowbringers' Eden raid series. Successful completion of this raid rewards players with Clouddark Demimateria 1 and 2, with bonus drops of the latter based on first-time clears.
Patch 7.16's new exchange system for Clouddark Demimateria is a direct response to community input, aimed at enabling more players to access high-demand items. Although the exact exchange rate remains undisclosed, this update will facilitate the acquisition of sought-after rewards such as the A Half Times Two hairstyle and the Dais of Darkness mount, which require 49 and 75 Clouddark Demimateria 2 respectively. These items can also be traded on the market board, suggesting potential shifts in their market value post-patch.
Square Enix has indicated that further adjustments could be made in future updates, influenced by ongoing player feedback. Patch 7.16 marks the first content update for Final Fantasy 14 in 2025, featuring the much-anticipated finale of the Dawntrail Role Quest series. While major job balance updates are not expected until Patch 7.2, the community eagerly anticipates how these changes and future raid content will evolve throughout the year.
