Fallout 76 Season 20 gives players the chance to become a Ghoul in a radiation-infested wasteland. Read on to learn more about all the ghoul-related features coming to the game and the new level 50 character boost.
Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
Fallout 76's latest update allows players to explore Appalachia as a Ghoul. Bethesda announced on their website on March 18 that Fallout 76 Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live. This update introduces various ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics, allowing players to redesign their C.A.M.P.
In this exciting update, players can transform into a Ghoul through a process called Ghoulification by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This questline leads players to a new section of the Savage Divide, where they'll meet new characters who aid in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
The Feral ability replaces the hunger and thirst stats, providing boosts in various categories based on the Feral meter's percentage. However, if the meter drops to 0%, gameplay changes drastically: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, making them immune to diseases and mutations, and even causes them to glow. This ability also boosts maximum health, heals damage, and contributes to Ghoul-exclusive Perks, which Bethesda refers to as "Gherks."
Players have 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance will be unavailable to Ghouls, as they do not benefit from these.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
As a Ghoul, navigating the radiation-filled wasteland becomes easier with the new Gherks and abilities. However, certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile towards Ghouls, potentially locking players out of specific questlines.
Fortunately, players can overcome these challenges with the help of Jaye, a new NPC who provides disguises to access any content blocked due to being a Ghoul. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit a player, they can revert to being human via the Character Screen. However, this is a one-way decision, as players cannot redo the Leap of Faith questline. Instead, they can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're new to the wasteland or a seasoned resident of Appalachia, the Level 50 Character Boost in the Season 20 update can jumpstart your journey. This boost, available for 1500 Atoms, provides various enhancements and perks, allowing players to dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content.
The patch also includes bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as accessibility improvements, combat balancing, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29, which is part of their season calendar.
Originally released in November 2018, Fallout 76 had a challenging start due to bugs and issues. Thanks to consistent updates and the current Season 20 release, the game now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of its reviews being positive. Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
