The God of War TV series, announced in 2022 on a PlayStation podcast, follows the success of the 2018 God of War game reboot. This project is part of Sony's broader strategy to adapt its popular video game franchises into film and television. This initiative, launched with the creation of PlayStation Productions in 2019, has already yielded successful projects like the Uncharted film (2022), the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series (Season 2 slated for 2025), the Gran Turismo film (2023), and the Twisted Metal series (2024). Furthermore, several other adaptations are in various stages of development, including Horizon Zero Dawn (Netflix), Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the upcoming Until Dawn film (April 25, 2025).
