The beloved survival horror classics, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, have made a triumphant return to the gaming world through re-releases on PC, courtesy of GOG. These iconic PlayStation titles, originally launched by Capcom in 1999 and 2000 respectively, are now available DRM-free on the CD Projekt-owned platform as part of GOG's Preservation Program, ensuring the games' original content remains fully intact.
While Dino Crisis 3 made its debut as an Xbox exclusive in 2003, fans have been eagerly awaiting any new developments in the series. Despite fervent community support for a new entry or an HD remake, Capcom has not shown interest in reviving the franchise. The 2022 announcement of Exoprimal, a multiplayer action game featuring dinosaurs, was perceived by many as signaling the end of hopes for a Dino Crisis revival. Furthermore, Shinji Mikami, the creator of Dino Crisis, noted last year that the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter series leaves little room for a reboot or remake of the cherished PlayStation game.
Previously, PC ports of the first two Dino Crisis games were challenging to locate and run on modern systems. GOG's efforts to bring these games back are a welcome development for fans. GOG highlighted this revival by stating, "Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Capcom and GOG, Regina’s iconic line, 'You’re extinct!' no longer applies to the game itself. The timeless thriller that defined a generation of gamers is made to last forever, enhanced for today’s systems, featuring all the original content you loved with numerous improvements."
