GTA 6 Mapping Project Surges with Trailer 2: 'Information Overload'

Author : Lucy May 17,2025

The release of Trailer 2 for *Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)* has significantly accelerated the long-running GTA 6 mapping project. Garza, a key member overseeing the project's Discord server, shared with IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." With the community now boasting nearly 400 members, the buzz around the new trailer has sparked an intense effort to decode its wealth of information.

"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza emphasized. "We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started."

The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was established following the massive leaks in September 2022, which some fans believe were humorously acknowledged at the start of Trailer 2. The project's aim is to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible, relying previously on the leaks and the first trailer from December 2023. However, the latest map version, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now considered outdated due to the detailed insights provided by Trailer 2.

Rockstar's latest reveal confirmed plot details, introduced new characters, and shared 70 new screenshots of GTA 6. It also provided insights into the explorable areas within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida. Key locations confirmed include Vice City (GTA's take on Miami), the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the notable Mount Kalaga near the state's northern border.

The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of every element shown, aiming to match these fictional spaces to their real-world inspirations. Their efforts will culminate in an updated map by DuPz0r, which fans eagerly anticipate as a detailed preview of what GTA 6 will offer upon its release in May 2026.

Should Rockstar release additional assets or gameplay footage before then, the mapping team is prepared to refine their work further. Only upon the game's release will they be able to assess the accuracy of their map against the actual game environment.

The project faces potential risks, as demonstrated when a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map in GTA 5 was forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. When asked about concerns over similar action, Garza expressed "some mild concern" but noted the project's long-standing operation without direct interference.

"This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community," Garza explained. "However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."

As the mapping project continues, fans can stay updated with more on GTA 6, including all the details discovered so far and emerging fan theories from Trailer 2.
