Big changes are coming for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto on Android. GTA III and GTA Vice City are leaving the Netflix Games platform next month.
Why the Departure? License Expiration.
This isn't a surprise move; Netflix licenses games like it does movies and shows. The licenses for these two GTA titles expire next month. A "Leaving Soon" tag will appear on the games before they're removed.
GTA III and Vice City were added to Netflix Games exactly one year ago, reflecting a 12-month agreement with Rockstar Games. After December 13th, Netflix subscribers will no longer have access to these games. If you're currently playing, it's time to finish up! However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available.
Future of the Games?
Don't worry if you haven't completed them yet; you can purchase GTA III and Vice City (Definitive Editions) individually for $4.99 each, or the entire trilogy for $11.99 on the Google Play Store.
Unlike the abrupt removal of Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is giving players advance notice. It's interesting that Rockstar isn't renewing the license, especially considering Netflix's subscriber growth in 2023, partly attributed to the GTA trilogy.
However, there are rumors that Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Let's hope this rumor proves true!
