We've just gotten our first glimpse of DC Studios' latest venture into the Green Lantern universe, and it's a dual spotlight on two iconic characters.

HBO has unveiled the initial visuals for the forthcoming series, "Lanterns," featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. "Lanterns" promises a fresh take on the Green Lantern mythos, blending the genre with a detective drama reminiscent of acclaimed series like "True Detective" and "Slow Horses." The narrative follows Chandler's Hal Jordan teaming up with Pierre's John Stewart to unravel a murder mystery that plunges them into an even more ominous enigma. This series is a confirmed component of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, which also encompasses "Creature Commando" and the eagerly awaited films "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."

The creative minds behind "Lanterns" include Damon Lindelof, known for his work on "Lost," alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King. The show is set to adopt a darker tone, which Gunn describes as "very grounded, very believable, very real. The kind of things that you would never think that would be the truth about a Green Lanterns television series."

Kyle Chandler, renowned for his role in "Friday Night Lights," takes on the role of an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre, who made an impact with "Rebel Ridge," steps into the shoes of John Stewart. "Lanterns" is slated to premiere in 2026, aligning its release with the upcoming "Supergirl" movie, promising a thrilling addition to the DC lineup.
