Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Hollywood Treatment at CES 2025
Sony made a major announcement at CES 2025: a film adaptation of its hugely successful game, Helldivers 2, is in development. The project is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, revealed the exciting news on stage, stating, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a movie based on our incredibly popular Helldivers 2 game." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles brought to life on the silver screen.
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter game reminiscent of the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, introducing a returning enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
This exciting news follows the earlier announcement of a Horizon Zero Dawn movie adaptation, a project spearheaded by PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted film.
Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can already assure audiences: this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic presentation."
