League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests in response to fan feedback. Dive into the details about the upcoming update and what's on the horizon for LoL.
League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Return
League of Legends (LoL) is reintroducing Hextech Chests following an outpour of fan feedback. Riot Games shared a comprehensive developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, detailing the upcoming changes, complemented by a video update on their YouTube channel.LoL recognized that their recent adjustments didn't resonate well with the community, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The reintroduction of Hextech Chests was a direct response to fan demand, as LoL explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff; they were an integral part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 chests and keys per act, with 8 available through the free pass and the remaining 2 obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan-Driven Changes
Riot Games announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, stating their desire to "take more time to ensure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
Responding to additional fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the overabundance of champions per seasonal theme.
LoL also values player accessibility to champions. In light of recent discussions on blue essence and champion shards, the game will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting in patch 25.05.
Another reversal involves Clash, which was previously slated for less frequent runs. LoL is now returning to a monthly schedule for Clash, starting with an ARURF event in March, followed by a standard Summoner's Rift Clash in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Make a Comeback
In response to fan requests, LoL is bringing back the beloved Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop will return in patch 25.06, followed by the Emporium in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to ongoing refinement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
Riot Games' recent actions demonstrate their dedication to listening to fan feedback and making adjustments to enhance the gaming experience. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC. Stay updated with the latest news on our League of Legends page.
