Universal Pictures has unveiled the first look at Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, starring Hollywood heavyweight Matt Damon as Odysseus. Following the phenomenal success of 2023's Oppenheimer, Nolan's new project reimagines the classic Ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. The official synopsis promises a mythic action epic, filmed globally using groundbreaking IMAX film technology. This marks the first time Homer's seminal saga will grace IMAX screens.
The Odyssey chronicles Odysseus's arduous ten-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. While Universal remains tight-lipped on further details, reports suggest an all-star cast is assembling.
Matt Damon, whose collaboration with Nolan on Oppenheimer (a seven-time Academy Award winner, including Best Picture and Best Director) marked a return to Universal, was reportedly the first in talks for the lead role. He may be joined by a stellar ensemble including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
