Responding to fan inquiries on Twitch, Warhorse Studios PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, explicitly stated that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM system, including Denuvo. He attributed the confusion to miscommunication and inaccurate information circulating online, urging players to cease inquiries about DRM integration. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any claims of DRM inclusion are untrue unless officially announced by Warhorse Studios.
The absence of DRM is likely to be welcomed by many gamers. DRM, particularly Denuvo, has often been criticized for potential performance impacts and negative user experiences. While serving as anti-piracy software, its implementation has sometimes resulted in gameplay issues. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith apprentice, in medieval Bohemia, following a devastating event in his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
