Tidepool Games has released a fresh, fast-paced pixel art roguelike for Android titled *MageTrain*. If you've ever played *Nimble Quest*, the gameplay will feel instantly familiar. In fact, *MageTrain* proudly takes inspiration from that classic title while carving out its own unique identity.
What’s MageTrain Like?
*MageTrain* blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into one exciting package. You control a train of heroes moving around an arena, with each character following behind you in a line—just like a snake. As you navigate the battlefield, your heroes automatically attack enemies, making the gameplay both dynamic and strategic.
Your main objective is to guide the team carefully, avoiding collisions with enemies and obstacles. Positioning matters: you decide who leads the group and who supports from behind, as abilities change depending on placement.
At launch, *MageTrain* offers nine distinct heroes, including one who throws birds! Each hero brings unique skills to the table, with different effects based on whether they're leading or part of the supporting cast.
You'll journey through eight diverse dungeons, battle 28 enemy types, and unlock 30 powerful skills to strengthen your squad. Along the way, collect gold and power-ups to boost your chances of survival.
Thanks to its roguelike design, every run feels different. Explore branching paths, choose upgrades wisely, and push yourself to last longer each time. The game structure is reminiscent of titles like *Slay the Spire* and *FTL*: no fixed levels and no save points. One mistake—like crashing into the wrong enemy—can mean starting all over again.
