Hideo Kojima recently shared on Twitter that he cast Margaret Qualley as Mama in Death Stranding after watching her in a Spike Jonze-directed Kenzo fragrance commercial. The viral ad features Qualley performing an eccentric yet choreographed dance, complete with finger lasers and exaggerated movements, reminiscent of Fat Boy Slim’s iconic Weapon of Choice video starring Christopher Walken.
In Death Stranding, Qualley portrays Mama Målingen, a pivotal figure who co-founded the Chiral Network alongside her twin sister, Lockne (also played by Qualley). As part of the United Cities of America's scientific team known as Bridges, she’s responsible for developing groundbreaking communication technology.
Kojima’s tweet sparked excitement among fans, with one commenter calling him a visionary and another humorously volunteering for a role. Meanwhile, Kojima continues his ambitious projects, including Death Stranding 2, set for release on June 26, 2025, a live-action Death Stranding film with A24, and OD for Xbox. He’s also developing a PlayStation exclusive action espionage title.
