What Is Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World is shaping up to be the largest installment in the franchise yet. Designed as a sprawling open-world experience similar to *Forza Horizon*, it offers seamless transitions between races. For example, after finishing one Grand Prix track, you can actually drive to the next location instead of loading into a new race. The game introduces dynamic environments affected by time of day and weather conditions, which impact visibility and vehicle handling. Players can even leave the designated race path and explore nearly any area of the map. Each race supports up to 24 drivers, making it the most populated Mario Kart event ever.
A new mode called Knockout Tour challenges players to race across the world map, passing checkpoints with minimum placement requirements. Fail to meet the checkpoint rank, and you’re eliminated. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, Free Roam mode allows unlimited exploration, co-op play, and photo-taking with friends.
More details will be revealed during the April 17 Nintendo Direct, but until then, check out our hands-on preview of Mario Kart World for an early look at what’s coming.
