Marvel Comics to Relaunch Captain America With Batman Writer Chip Zdarsky

Author : Anthony Mar 21,2025

Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Captain America series with an all-new creative team and a captivating new storyline. This exciting reboot will delve into Steve Rogers' earliest days after his revival from suspended animation, offering a fresh perspective on the iconic hero. A highlight of this new arc? The very first meeting between Captain America and Doctor Doom!

The creative powerhouse behind this relaunch includes writer Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil), artist Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), and colorist Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The series kicks off shortly after Steve's rediscovery and thawing in the modern Marvel Universe. His first mission after rejoining the U.S. Army? A thrilling infiltration of Latveria alongside the Howling Commandos, a mission complicated by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom's recent takeover. While the series will eventually transition to contemporary Marvel continuity, this initial arc's events will significantly impact Zdarsky and Schiti's ongoing narrative.

"I've been a huge Captain America fan for decades," Zdarsky shared. "I loved writing the seasoned, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream! We're exploring Cap's early days in the modern era with a twist that I think will truly surprise readers! I'm incredibly excited to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's stunning art!"

He continued, "I've approached this title much like my Daredevil run, aiming for a grounded, human portrayal of Cap in this new world. Steve Rogers represents the best in us, and I want that to shine through on every page."

"Captain America is one of my all-time favorites," Schiti added. "Reuniting with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after the incredible experience of Marvel 2-In-One is fantastic, and working on a story that perfectly blends heart, action, and entertainment is a thrill! Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."

Schiti further explained, "Chip's script is so clever and engaging that readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He's become the living embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought a war against Nazism, 'died' in that war, and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, and considering the timeline, he's only in his late twenties in the era we're exploring!"

Captain America #1 will hit shelves on July 2, 2025.
