Marvel Rivals Players Risk Bans

Summary

  • NetEase Games has warned that modders of Marvel Rivals risk account bans for violating the game's terms of service.
  • Season 1 introduced a hidden anti-modding measure, but workarounds were quickly developed.
  • It remains unclear if NetEase Games has issued any bans for modding Marvel Rivals.

NetEase Games, the developer and publisher of Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players: any form of modding, from cosmetic hero modifications to gameplay-altering add-ons, violates the game's terms of service and could lead to permanent bans. This announcement follows the launch of Season 1, which not only brought updates like Hero buffs and nerfs but also introduced two new playable characters from the Fantastic Four—Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic. The remaining members of the Fantastic Four, Human Torch and The Thing, are set to join the roster in upcoming updates.

Since its debut in December 2024, Marvel Rivals has captivated fans of both Marvel Comics and team shooters, earning a nomination for Online Game of the Year at the DICE Awards 2025. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 13 in Las Vegas.

Despite efforts to curb modding in Season 1, some players have found ways to bypass NetEase Games' new anti-modding measures. IGN reported that a mod available on Nexus Mods, created by user Prafit, circumvents a system that checks asset hashes to detect modifications. Prafit has cautioned that users who download the mod do so at their own risk, recommending it only for those with high-end PCs. Following Prafit's release, another mod surfaced on social media, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, a mod crafted by user Ercuallo and shared by RivalsLeaks on Twitter.

Marvel Rivals Warns Users to Stop Modding or Risk Bans

While it is not confirmed whether NetEase Games has banned any players for modding, the company has clearly stated that such actions contravene the game's terms of service. Some mods, including one featuring US President-elect Donald Trump, have been removed from Nexus Mods, but Prafit's Season 1 workaround remains available, with over 500 downloads at the time of writing.

Although Marvel Rivals has experienced issues with false bans since its launch, the consequences of violating the game's terms of service have been explicitly outlined. The community awaits further action from NetEase Games in response to the ongoing modding situation.
