Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. This new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest volume. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the art, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.
The story unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the pivotal Battle of Jakku. As the New Republic strives for galactic dominance, Luke and his companions confront new challenges posed by opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other adversaries exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we're launching into a new, unexplored era, introducing fresh galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to tackle," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These stories will be action-packed, featuring the character-driven moments Star Wars fans expect, with a fresh perspective on the galaxy we know. We've designed the series for easy entry, making each issue accessible to new readers."
Noto added, "Alex's storylines and new characters are fantastic, and I'm excited to bring them to life! It's been a thrill to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, without the constraints of existing film or TV portrayals. I'm creating new looks while drawing inspiration from the original actors."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
