If you're still questioning whether *Rune Slayer* qualifies as an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing be your definitive proof. We jest, of course, but if you're eager to dive into the world of fishing within *Rune Slayer*, you're in the right place. We stumbled a bit at first, but we've got the scoop on how to cast your line and reel in those aquatic treasures. Spoiler alert: it's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you embark on your fishing adventure, make sure to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon tasks you with catching 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll clarify the quotation marks shortly).

Here's the catch: to snag those fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait or tackle, and conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to supplier.

Head over and purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. It's advisable to stock up on at least 5 worms, though we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. And before you wonder, no, you don't equip the bait. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they're automatically used when you fish. Each successful catch will consume one Worm from your inventory.

There's a crucial detail to note: you won't be able to catch anything unless you have at least 5 bait items. We tried with just one Worm and came up empty-handed. It was only after we had 5 Worms that we started catching fish. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to monitor your supply easily. Once you're set, you can proceed to the next step.

How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer

First off, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just add it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will ready it in both hands.

Hold down M1 to cast your line into a body of water—the pier near Simon the Fisherman is a prime spot.

Keep an eye on the bobber, and when you notice one or two ripples, click M1 again to reel in your catch. It's that simple.

However, success isn't guaranteed every time. You'll often come up empty, or reel in junk instead. The good news? Simon counts junk as a catch, which is why we used "fish" in quotation marks earlier.

So, the strategy is to cast, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and repeat until you've caught 5 "fish". We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

Once you've bagged 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Open it up and store your remaining Worms inside to save valuable inventory space.

And that's the gist of fishing in Rune Slayer. Enjoy your time by the water! For more tips, don't forget to check out our Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Rune Slayer.
