To celebrate 15 years since the release of the original Metro 2033, developer 4A Games is giving players free access to Metro 2033 Redux on Steam and Xbox. The offer is live until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT—just 48 hours from the announcement made on April 14 via the official Metro X (formerly Twitter) account.
This is a perfect opportunity for new players to dive into the post-apocalyptic world of Metro and experience the story that launched the acclaimed franchise. Fans can also revisit Artyom’s journey through the dark tunnels of the Moscow metro with enhanced visuals and gameplay improvements included in the Redux version.
In a March 16 blog post on their official website, 4A Games shared their vision for the anniversary celebrations. “Throughout this year, there will be events, deals, and celebratory content across the Metro social media channels, to thank you, our players, for coming on the journey so far with us,” the developers wrote.
Founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanding to Malta, 4A Games has drawn deep inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky’s science fiction novel Metro 2033. The game’s narrative roots remain a cornerstone of the series’ identity. Despite the ongoing challenges caused by the war in Ukraine, the studio continues its work with resilience and purpose.
“We are currently as safe as possible,” the team shared. “We want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title—it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it.”

4A Games confirmed they are actively developing two triple-A titles: the next mainline Metro game and a completely original IP. While details about the new intellectual property remain under wraps, the studio has offered insight into the direction of the upcoming Metro installment.
The full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 profoundly impacted the development team and reshaped the narrative approach for the next Metro game. “As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story,” the studio explained. “The themes already present in Metro—survival, hope, and human resilience—are now more apparent and more important than ever.”
