Michael Douglas Unlikely to Return as Hank Pym in Ant-Man

Author : Anthony May 23,2025

Veteran actor Michael Douglas, known for his role as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has hinted that his time with the franchise may be over. Douglas has graced the big screen as Hank Pym in four films, including the three Ant-Man movies and Avengers: Endgame. His latest appearance was in the 2023 release, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which unfortunately did not meet audience expectations.

With the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday currently in production, fans are curious if they will see Hank Pym return. In a recent interview with Deadline, Douglas expressed skepticism about his involvement in future MCU projects, stating, "I don't think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it." He has largely stepped back from acting, with his recent appearances limited to Marvel films, while he continues to thrive as a producer with over a dozen credits to his name.

Reflecting on his Marvel journey, Douglas shared his initial surprise at working with green screens, a first for him. He noted, "But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time." Previously, Douglas had expressed a desire for Hank Pym to meet a dramatic end in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, believing it would enhance the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. However, Marvel opted for a different direction.

However, Paul Rudd is set to reprise his role as Ant-Man in Avengers: Doomsday. As for the rest of the Ant-Man family, including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, their return seems unlikely. In June 2024, Lilly announced her decision to step away from acting to focus on her family, making her appearance as Wasp in Avengers: Doomsday improbable.

As anticipation builds for Avengers: Doomsday, recent leaks from the set have teased the return of a surprising location from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, adding to the excitement and speculation about what the film will entail.
